BACK TO THE HOMEPAGE
Homecoming success
posted on 02 Nov 2010 by UGA Habitat

Hey UGA Habitat followers,

My name is Travis Howell, and I'm the current Vp of Campus Outreach. So I want to start of by saying thanks to everyone who made Homecoming week such a big success with the banner painting competition, street painting, and float building. The homecoming parade was amazing and Habitat 's float will always be number one in my eyes.

With the adrenalin of the Homecoming week still in our brain it is now time to move on to some of our exciting events like the Taste for Charity event with Alpha Kappa Psi, Idaho state tailgate, Turkey Trot, Pancake supper, and Gift wrapping. All these events need everyone's help to make them a huge success. I hope to see everyone out there and remember we are working to build a stronger community one house at a time.

Greetings Habitaters!!

On behalf of everyone on the exec board, I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who showed up for our percentage night last Thursday at Your Pie!! It was a big success and we generated $110 that will go toward future Habitat homes and advocacy events in Athens.

Our next general meeting will be this Wednesday, September 29, at 7:30 pm in SLC 148, and we look forward to having another tremendous turnout. At our past two consecutive meetings we have exceeded over 100 attendees! These numbers are wonderful, and will go a long way toward helping us achieve our fundraising, advocacy, and building goals this semester. Those of you who have attended one of our meetings before know that after we go over general Habitat announcements as a group, we break into committees where we can get down to planning the details of our upcoming events. These committees are also designed to help members work in smaller groups where they can get to know other Habitat members and exchange ideas with board members about Habitat events. Your feedback is always welcome, and we, the board, want to make a big effort to get to know you and make you feel like a meaningful part of our organization!

So this Wednesday, take some time to think about which of our committees you would be interested in joining. Gift Wrap Across Georgia, our annual Turkey Trot 5K, Slam the Door on Poverty (our on campus build), Recycling Tailgate (Nov. 6), and Homecoming our are main committees this semester. However, there are many ways to participate in Habitat. If you have other ideas about what you would like to do in Habitat, please let us know and we will help you find something that you enjoy doing.

Also, many of our committee leaders are planning on meeting with their groups outside of our general Wednesday night meetings, so be sure to sign up for a committee listserv so you can stay informed. We look forward to seeing you all this Wednesday! Happy Habitating!!
