Gift Wrap Across Georgia
For those of you who love to indulge in the spirit of giving, Gift Wrap Across Georgia is the perfect fundraiser to participate in! This is the major fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity; in the week before Christmas, volunteers gift wrap gifts at Barnes and Nobles, Borders, and Best Buys across Georgia, and in-turn ask for donations.
This past year, volunteers raised $11,200 for UGA Habitat for Humanity. This money goes to sponsoring a new house to build. We have to remember that these houses are not free, so in order to build, we have to raise money to sponsor the building of the house. Volunteers for this event can participate in just gift-wrapping or they can volunteer to be Store Managers, over-looking and the volunteers and the money for the store during the event.
Our plans for 2011 include expanding our volunteer base by working with local high schools as well as working with more stores to serve the most customers. A lot of preparation goes into this event, so sign-up online or at a meeting in the fall. After all, it is our biggest fundraiser. If you want more information or already know you would like to help out next, please contact Tracy Phan, this year’s Major Fundraising Chair, at email@example.com.
Trick or Trot 5K
The 12th Annual UGA Habitat for Humanity 5K Race will be held on October 16, 2011 at 10 am. That might seem like a long time from now, but it is never too early to start planning.
Last year’s race brought in over 100 runners a net total of over $2,500. This year, we hope to have over 200 runners run the race, and raise over $3,500! To accomplish our goal, we will need help from all of you. This year, we are especially interested in having organizations on and around campus bring groups of runners to participate.
If any of you have close connections with large student groups, please let me know. At the beginning of next semester, we will form a committee that will help to plan the race, find sponsors, and organize publicity efforts. Until then, recruit your friends. They still have plenty of time to train!
